HIRING: Kitchen Manager [Yorktown Brewpub]

The Kitchen Manager position is a full-time, salaried role at The Kitchen, from the Virginia Beer Co. (7120 GW Memorial Hwy.) in Yorktown, VA. The Kitchen is a brewpub-in-planning with an expected opening timeline of late January 2026. 


Role Responsibilities

● Work with the rest of the Management Team as needed to hire Back of House [BoH]  staff (Assistant Kitchen Manager, Line Cooks, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, etc.)
● Write the kitchen schedule and post two weeks in advance
● Create & facilitate annual performance reviews for all BoH team members
● Prepare training materials for new BoH team members, as well as continuing education opportunities for existing employees
● Ensure menu is executed appropriately and consistently
● Meet all food & BoH labor costs set by Management Team
● Tracking monthly product/smallwares inventory, educate team members to minimize waste
● Establish and maintain healthy relationships with vendors
● Create & oversee daily/weekly prep lists
● Ensure health code is followed at all times
● Maintain/oversee accurate product inventory & rotation to ensure availability at all times
● Order all necessary food/products for BoH
● Work with General Manager to plan any off-site catering/large party events
● Maintain food quality & sanitation standards in the kitchen
● Coordinate all necessary operational maintenance (hood cleaning, waste removal, etc.)
● Maintain records of all necessary food items (seafood, shellfish, etc.)
● Proper, continuous logging of daily temperature logs & cleaning protocol for the health department and fire marshal

Management Structure

~ Reports to:  Retail & Hospitality Manager, General Manager

~ Direct Reports:  Assistant Kitchen Manager, Kitchen Staff

Position Considerations

~ We are looking for a candidate with at least 3-5 years experience managing a high volume kitchen. A culinary or college degree is not a requirement. We’re looking for a capable manager with great references & experience.

~ Once hired, the tentative schedule would be a Monday through Friday cadence for hiring, leading up to staff training and soft opening plans.

~ Once the brewpub is open, the KM will work with the GM to schedule themselves accordingly to ensure they are available for office work, management meetings, and in the kitchen during peak business hours.

~ Please note that this role will require quite a bit of flexibility to start. From hiring & training, then working to help get this long-awaited brewpub open, we expect that everyone on the Management Team will need to be nimble to make this opening a success.
