A Tribute To One Of Our Own

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we mourn the sudden loss of one of our own. Earlier this week, we received the devastating news that Carley was no longer with us.

Carley was most recently a brewer with The Virginia Beer Company, having joined VBC after completing a brewing internship with Precarious Beer Project. In just a short time shared between our breweries, Carley made it very clear that she had a passion for the world of brewing.

Carley brought a quiet confidence and an eye for technical acuteness to any task she took on. From the cellar to the brew deck and everywhere between, Carley was excited to turn her love of better beer into a career (and even planned to one day open a brewery with her sister, Michaela).

Carley was an Army veteran, an animal lover, an advocate for those who needed a voice, and so much more. But most importantly, she was an amazing part of our community. Carley didn’t just bring an exuberant joy to our local corner of craft beer…but to everyone who was fortunate enough to be a part of her community.

Individually and collectively, we are still reeling from Carley’s passing. We will share news of future celebrations for Carley as plans come together. In the meantime, Carley’s family and our teams appreciate your support & understanding as we process how to move forward.

The sky was the limit for Carley, and we are truly gutted that we can’t share the journey with her going forward. But that doesn’t mean that we will stop celebrating Carley’s love of all things beer & brewing. Now and ever onward, we hope you’ll join us in raising a round of better beer sky high for Carley.

The VBC Taproom will be closed on Monday, 12/9 as our team gathers at Precarious Beer Project so we can come together to support Carley’s family and raise many rounds sky high together.
